Designing For The Unknown

When we decided to design our first men’s jewellery range at Brand Athena A, we knew we were stepping into unfamiliar territory. None of us on the Athena A team are the men who’d wear our jewellery. None of us are the client. And that’s exactly what made this range both a challenge—and an opportunity—we couldn’t ignore.

The Gap We Couldn’t Unsee

For years, our community—made up of powerful women with bold taste—has championed our brass pieces with pride. But in between trade shows, online orders, and countless conversations, a pattern started emerging. We kept hearing it: “Do you have anything for men?”

At first, we thought it was just the occasional once-off question. But over time, the signals got louder. We would see men going to the women’s section to find something for themselves. Boyfriends, brothers, partners, clients… they were being left out of the story we were telling. And so, we decided it was time to write a new chapter.

Designing for Someone Who Isn't You

Here’s the thing… designing jewellery for yourself is intuitive. You know what you’d wear, what you'd tweak and what you'd never be caught dead in. But designing for someone else—especially someone whose style code you’ve never had to crack—is like walking into a dark room and trying to sketch the layout.

We had to learn. Fast.

We asked questions. What is masculine, without being cliché? What’s bold but wearable? How do you create something that respects the heritage of men’s adornment while also moving it forward?

The Athena A Spirit - Chaos & Collaboration

The best thing about our team? We don’t back down from a design challenge—especially one that requires some serious innovation. We’re bold by nature. We debate hard, laugh loud, and work even harder. This range was no exception.

What emerged is a range that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It’s deliberate, clean, textured, and quietly confident—just like the men we had in mind when we designed it.

Editors Note

This men’s range is more than a few new products—it’s a symbol of our ability to adapt, listen, and create even when we’re unsure. It’s a celebration of teamwork, guts and gut instincts.

We’re proud of what we made. But more importantly, we’re proud of how we made it - together, through the unknown, with a lot of laughter and a little bit of chaos.

To the men who’ve been asking for a seat at the Athena A table—this one's for you.
