The Colour Analysis Theory, first developed by Bernice Kentner and Carole Jackson, is based on the concept that individuals have either warm, cool, or neutral undertones in their skin.
Below we’ve created a guide to help you find the perfect jewellery for your unique skin tone.
FINDING YOUR UNDERTONE
- Check your veins
Look at the colour of your veins - if they look blue/ purple you have a cool undertone, if they look green then you have a warm undertone and if they look green and blue or green and purple then you have a neutral undertone.
- Do you tan, burn or both?/ How does your skin react to the sun?
If your skin tends to burn under the sun light, you have a cool undertone, if your skin tans easily, you have a warm undertone, and if your skin burns and then tans, then you have a neutral undertone.
- Test with a white shirt or dress
If your skin looks rosy in a white shirt or dress then you have a cool undertone, if it looks yellow-ish, you have a warm undertone and if you don’t see any difference, then you have a neutral undertone.
Warm Tones
If you have warm undertones, your skin has a yellow or golden hue. Warm-toned individuals typically look radiant in jewellery metals with warm undertones, such as gold, brass, and copper. These metals enhance the warmth in your complexion, creating a harmonious and glowing effect.
Cool Tones
On the other hand, if you have cool undertones, your skin might have a pink, blue, or red undertone. Cool-toned individuals tend to shine in jewellery metals with cool undertones, such as aluminium, platinum, and silver. These metals provide a contrast to your skin's undertones, creating an elegant and sophisticated look.
Neutral Tones
For those lucky individuals with neutral undertones, you have the flexibility to wear a wide range of jewellery metals. With a balanced mix of warm and cool undertones, both gold and silver-based metals can flatter your skin beautifully. Experiment with mixed metal pieces or choose jewellery with unique designs that combine both warm and cool elements. Embrace your versatility and explore various options to find the perfect match.
Editor’s Note
Choosing the right metal colour for your skins undertone is just another way of understanding your uniqueness and why you wear and choose the pieces you do. Remember jewellery is more than just an accessory; it’s the outward expression of your inner Goddess!
