When it comes to clothes, hair and makeup, choosing the right fit, style, and colour that complements our natural beauty and matches our body type is key in helping us wear something that makes us feel confident.
.
Jewellery is no different, and when it comes to earrings, there are styles that are more suited to different face shapes. We have created a comprehensive guide to help you determine what your face shape is and how to style it.
Step 1: Before you start, tie your hair back, pulling your hair off your forehead so you can see your entire face. Use a measuring tape to measure the following facial features:
- Forehead width: measure the distance across your forehead at the widest point, from hairline to hairline.
- Cheekbone width: From your hairline above your cheekbone, measure distance across your face to the same spot on the other side.
- Jawline width: Start at the base of your jaw (underneath your ears). Measure the distance along the edge of your jaw until you reach the middle of your chin. Continue to measure the other side or simply multiply that number by two.
- Face length: Begin measuring at the centre of your hairline, all the way down, until it reaches the tip of your chin.

If you have a forehead that is essentially the same width as your jawline and the sides of your face follow a straight line from your jaw to your forehead. Then you have a square face shape.
Avoid square-shaped and angular earrings, and instead, choose rounded hoops or curvy-style earrings that flatter and soften the facial structure and jawline.

If both your forehead and your cheekbones are about the same length, and they are both wider than your jawline. Then you have a heart face shape.
Choose earrings that sit close to the face. Small to medium hoop earrings and teardrop-style earrings that are wider at the bottom, balance out the jawline.

Is your forehead rounded at your hairline? Is the width of your face essentially the same as the length of your face? Is your jawline rounded with subtle angles?
.
Then, you have a round face shape. Avoid hoops and rounded earrings, and focus more on long, dangling styles, lengthening the facial silhouette as opposed to widening it.
.
.

.
If the width of your forehead is smaller than the width of your cheekbones, your cheekbones are the widest part of your face, and you if you have shard angles on your face then you may have an oval face shape.
It’s best to avoid very narrow, long earrings, making the face look drawn or over-elongation. Opt instead for studs, hoops, or chandelier-style earrings that draw attention to the cheekbones.
EDITOR'S NOTE
Now that we’ve covered the four main face shapes and earring styles, it’s important to remember that jewellery is very personal, and how we wear our jewellery is a self-expression of who we are and what we love.
.
In other words, if you love them and they makes you feel like a Goddess when you wear them - then those are the perfect pair of earrings for YOU.
